Keely is passionate about financial inclusion and mechanisms such as microfinance which unlock the potential of the poor globally. Keely is working with the Acumen Fund (www.acumenfund.org) in their first group of Fellows. She will live in Tanzania this year and work with one of Acumen's investments, AtoZ, to help stop malaria through long lasting bed nets. Prior to Acumen Keely served as the Interim Director of Social-Impact (www.social-impact.org) and helped establish a professional development program for social entrpereneurs in India. She has also worked as a consultant this year to Triodos Bank UK and the Royal Bafokeng Economic Board of South Africa. She was a Skoll Scholar in Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford University where she earned her MBA and served as Co-Chair of the Oxford Business Network for Social Entrepreneurs. Before her studies at Oxford, she was living in Peru and serving as the Interim Executive Director of ProWorld Service Corps. She joined the inspirational team at ProWorld to lead the design and development of a unique hybrid non-profit for-profit model. ProWorld's mission is to promote economic and social development, empower communities and cultivate compassionate global citizens. Previously, Keely brought her passion for technology, social welfare and international development to the Skoll Foundation. After working with the CEO and founder to design and develop the initial grantmaking programs and strategies, Stevenson wrote the business plan and led the development of Social Edge, Skoll's signature operating program. Social Edge is the first online community for social entrepreneurs worldwide, and Stevenson served as the Program Manager for the Social Edge online community. Prior to joining Skoll, Keely was a Fellow for the United Nations and designed creative public outreach strategies for the UN. While at the United Nations Information Centre in Washington D.C., Keely worked with officials from around the world to disseminate information about the UN to members of Congress, non-governmental organizations, the media and the American public. Her position at UNIC also included assisting the Centre with web development. Upon conclusion of her Fellowship with the UN Public Outreach Program, Keely designed the curriculum and taught an upper-division course at the University of California, Berkeley about the United Nations, the first of its kind. The teaching methods and curriculum designed by Keely have been replicated at other academic institutions. Prior to working for the UN, she served as a Community Representative for Senator Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento) at the California State Capitol. Her service in the Capitol included legislative research, constituent communication, case investigation and representing the Senator at district events. Keely's interest in political empowerment has often inspired her activism with numerous political campaigns. Keely was an Honors Alumni Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley where she studied Political Science. Her research at UC Berkeley included projects concerning public housing reform in America, microlending in Bangladesh and California's child support collection system. After organizing and leading an exchange student program, Keely studied in San Luis Potosi, Mexico where she conducted research on the Mexican electoral process. Keely's years as a Hospice volunteer inspired her to return to Mexico and conduct a sociological study on death and dying in the Mexican culture. Her interest in cultural exchange also guided her to later work in the Department of Medicine at UCD in Dublin, Ireland. Keely is an avid salsa dancer and her favorite thing to do is laugh hysterically with people she loves! ;-) She is guided by her passion to improve the quality of life for others and by her philosophy that life should be celebrated.
