R. Todd Johnson
Global Head of Renewable Energy and Sustainability, Jones Day. Todd’s practice focuses on renewable energy companies, companies seeking to have an impact on sustainable growth, energy efficiency, the internet and “for-benefit” corporations in the areas of corporate finance, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, corporate counseling, and mergers and acquisitions. Todd founded Jones Day's Northern California presence in 2000 by opening its Silicon Valley office. During 20 years at Jones Day, Todd has: represented renewable energy companies (and their suppliers), including SunPower, Emcore, and EPV, energy efficiency companies, clients focused on sustainability, internet companies (particularly in the cause social networking space) and "for-benefit" corporations. Todd has served as regular outside counsel to SunPower Corporation, SearchMe, Funny or Die, Santur, GoodGuide, Metering Technology, Notiva, and LaborFair.com, and has represented founders and start-ups in the formation, venture financing and liquidity phases. Todd provides pro bono assistance to a number of organizations, including the Grameen Trust, an African SME fund, Fair Trade Films (the maker of rockumentary on human trafficking, "Call + Response") and the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, but particularly those focused on expanding the "for-benefit" sector, including the Aspen Institute, Good Capital, GlobalGiving, B Labs and Pura Vida Coffee. In the past several years, Todd has been quoted for his work on behalf of "for-benefit" corporations in publications such as the New York Times and Inc magazine.
