Benjamin Ogunyo - Koinonia

benjamin ogunyoBenjamin Ogunyo, who is from Kenya, launched Koinonia to help street children get a formal education.

The 2004 Ashoka Fellow realized that to help those children, he needed to solve poverty, disease and hunger. "It's better to prevent the problems in the first place," he tells Global X in this short interview.

Benjamin Ogunyo tells the story of a woman who was HIV positive, had four children on the streets, was living in a single-room, and had lost hope as she thought she would soon die of AIDS or be pushed out of the house because she couldn't pay for the rent.

Benjamin Ogunyo helped her start a small bead business, helped her find a market, and now she can pay the rent and her children are back in school. She eats better and her HIV medication works better as a result.

It's all about preventive work, concludes Benjamin Ogunyo.
