Clare Wavamunno - Hill Preparatory School

clare wavamunno

Clare Wavamunno, an Ashoka Fellow based in Kampala (Uganda), launched Hill Preparatory School when her three-year-old daughter was diagnosed with learning disabilities.

Rather than move to the UK, Clare Wavamunno decided to launch her home-grown project where children with and without disabilities would be able to learn together in the same environment.

She had to find the right ratio so that all children could benefit from this new model, she had to modify the syllabus of the country and even add more to it, and more importantly, she had to overcome parents' reluctance.

When several students won gold and silver medals in swimming at the Special Olympics, she knew that he had succeeded. Her advice: "Don't give up. Keep going, keep going... And invest in individuals."

Claire-Very inspiring

What an inspiring story. I think so often times we often settle for a way of doing something because it is easy. Even though we know something in our heart is not right, we often time settle for whatever is at our finger tips. This story was so inspiring because it really showed me that its not always best to do what is easy, but instead to do what is right. What an example Claire is setting for her daughter!?! I am amazed my her strength and perseverance! Thank you for sharing this story!
