Newscorp and Myspace Side By Side?
Legacy media (ie newspapers, television, radio etc) is in the midst of a revolution (of sorts), racing to adapt to the new media Web 2.0 landscape characterized by citizen journalism, the blogosphere, and the likes of MySpace, Face Book, YouTube, etc. The challenge from the legacy media perspective is how to "monetize" online content while sustaining the traditional cost-heavy infrastructure, ie if you are in the business of delivering and distributing newsprint. In the US, media giant and newspaper chain Knight Ridder was recently acquired by the highest bidder....a smaller chain.
While legacy media troubles over the challenge, we see the opportunity for a more democratizing, bottom-up influence in how issues are framed and responded to -- hence, the forthcoming Hub!

Last seven days of one mans life...
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
"EXECUTION" TO SCREEN AT 29TH ANNUAL BIG MUDDY FILM FESTIVAL
NEW ORLEANS, LA – FEBRUARY 19, 2007 – EXECUTION, the fictional story of the final seven days of a man’s life before his execution by electric chair, will screen in-competition at the 2007 Big Muddy Film Festival. Held on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, The Big Muddy Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals in the U.S. affiliated with a university. EXECUTION will screen during the festival’s "Death Penalty" segment in the Student Center Auditorium at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 25th and 9:15 PM on Tuesday, February 27th.
EXECUTION is the only fictional film ever made that stars a real warden, a real condemned man and a real priest. William Neil Moore, who stars as The Condemned Man, spent over sixteen years on Georgia’s death row and came within seven hours of his own execution. He is the only man in America ever to be released from death row for a capital murder he was convicted of and had admitted to. His release from prison is even more amazing due to the fact that he was freed as a result of the efforts of his victim’s family who actually forgave him for his crime and spoke on his behalf at his parole hearing.
Donald Cabana, who stars as The Warden, is one of the most recognized wardens in America and the author of the best-seller “Death at Midnight: The Confession of an Executioner” his 1996 memoir which details his pain and confusion of having to carry out executions. He spent most of his time as the warden and director of the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman, a sprawling former plantation of more than 20,000 acres and at one time one of the country’s most corrupt and inhumane penitentiaries.
"I've personally carried out and have been a part of many executions," said Don Cabana, "and this film takes the audience closer to the actual execution process than any film that's ever been made."
Father Joel LaBauve, who stars as The Priest, is the former chaplain to Louisiana’s Maximum Security Penitentiary at Angola and has ministered to hundreds of condemned men. He has heard final confessions and "walked the mile” with many condemned men on their way to the execution chamber.
