Welcome to The Tactics of Hope project!

Meet Wilford Welch and David Hopkins

Hello and welcome to The Tactics of Hope – Social Edge collaborative. This is a 15-episode blog brought to you by two friends and authors of a forthcoming book, called The Tactics of Hope: How Social Entrepreneurs Are Changing Our World. The book and its companion website will be released May 25th in bookstores internationally.

A hundred years from now, people all over the world will look back at this time, the cusp of the new millennium, and realize that it marked the beginning of a dramatic shift in human consciousness regarding our social and environmental actions on earth.

The Tactics of Hope: How Social Entrepreneurs Are Changing Our World is a guide which inspires and supports individuals by providing strategies and tactics that will help transform their personal concerns into meaningful actions that will address critical social and environmental challenges.

As this is the first of a fifteen-episode blog series, it is only appropriate to introduce you to the voices behind this effort: Wilford Welch, the author of the book, and David Hopkins, the contributing editor who brings you this blog!

We are perhaps unlikely friends, let alone working partners, in past generations. Forty-five years apart in age, we believe that our work together is testament to the potential of intergenerational collaboration and dialogue.

Wilford Welch is a former US diplomat, lawyer and an international business strategy consultant. His career has been devoted to understanding and taking action to address global challenges. In 2004 he c-founded the Quest for Global Healing gathering, which brings thousands of people together from around the world every other year to help transform their concerns over environmental and social challenges into concrete initiatives.

David Hopkins graduated from Middlebury College in February of 2007. He has worked with Wilford on projects and international research since 2004. While in college, David was the director of the International Affairs Center of the Roosevelt Institution, the nation’s first intercollegiate student think tank devoted to progressive policy reform. He is now working to help lead the youth program of the next Quest for Global Healing gathering in June of 2009 called “Beyond Sustainability,” to take place on the volcano of the main island in Hawaii. In addition to his work with Wilford, David is part of a core team of committed entrepreneurs who have launched a nonprofit venture called Borderless Educations (BE).
