Spirituality and Social Entrepreneurship
Hosted by Charles "Hipbone" Cameron (December 2007)
For some of us, spirituality or faith is the engine driving our commitment to social enterprise, yet we live in times when making a point of such things can seem invasive -- if only because spiritualities and worldviews vary so much, while a need like hunger remains everywhere the same.In this week's event, we return to an earlier topic to see what more we can say about the blend of idealism and pragmatism which characterizes the social entrepreneur, and the particular role that faith- and/or spirituality-based efforts can play in it.
:: Does your spirituality drive your social entrepreneurship? How does that affect the balance of idealism and pragmatism in your case?
:: Do you generally team with others who have spiritual entrepreneurial
goals? Does a shared spirituality help or hinder your collaborations?
:: Is synchronicity among the assets you're most grateful for? Is it just a placebo effect, or does prayer really work? When the pedal hits the metal, in whom do you trust?
:: Is, perhaps, social entrepreneurship the "true" spirituality, and every other form a distraction?
:: Or is spirituality "head in the clouds" while social entrepreneurship is "down to earth"?

No need to invoke spirituality or faith
I'm deeply motivated to try to make this a more liveable world for humans, and to maintaining the beautiful complexity of the web of life on our planet. That's just the way I lead my life. I don't feel any need to use terms like "spirituality" or "faith" to explain this.
