Matthew Haas asks about community development lending

Q:
Do you know of some great resources regarding corporate branding strategies and community development lending? I am trying to understand how large financial institutions may play a role in advancing social entrepreneurship, green building, community rebuilding, through targeted strategies that bring their clients to the table in key urban marketplaces specifically low and moderate income neighborhoods?

Consultant Bridget McNamer responds:

Here are a few resources highlighting ways that financial institutions are addressing the challenges and opportunities of community development:

Shorebank

Bank of America

Social Funds

Grameen Bank

Co-Branding & Cross-branding

I used to work for Bank of America Community Development Banking. I am now with Fannie Mae Community Investments.

I know of these institutions but I am trying to find someone who has done work in branding, co-branding, cross-branding that involves not just community lending and investment. Or even some reading and literature.

My question about community co-branding for example might be the following: Apple (Steve Jobs) working with Bank of America Opportunity gets IPODs to be used to provide pod-casts to young entrepreneurs (Junior Achievement) on how to manage you money, how to buy a home, how to plan for education, etc and for each time a download occurs a young teenager gets a song. This is leveraging an existing fad with a need to be more educated financially - after all, they are the future customers for banks. Educational incentives through brand placement.
