Managing a Village's People, Property & Businesses through the web.
Up to GSBI 2008 Exercise 3: Business Model
Managing a Village's People, Property & Businesses through the web.
We want villagers in villages worldwide to understand the
economics of their villages, efficiently use their resources for economic
growth, and connect socially.
This is our answer to third exercise.
Re: Managing a Village's People, Property & Businesses through the web.
Hi Chris,
Your submission of Exercise 3 is a good start to your business model. If you could please include fishbone diagrams illustrating your organization’s income and expense drivers as shown at http://www.socialedge.org/features/gsbi/gsbi/exercise-3-business-model , as well as a list of critical success factors, your submission will be complete.
Regards,
Susan

Susan,
I have now updated all three exercises. I hope I'm on the right track. This process has been really helpful.

Hello Chris,
Thanks for submitting your revision of Exercise 3. There are a few more details that you could address to further refine your business model:
1. Identifying on your income fishbone the percentage of the total income each income generating activity contributes will show the relative importance of each activity. The same treatment would be useful for the cost fishbone.
2. Also on the fishbone diagrams, including costs or prices per unit will help quantify revenue and expenses, allowing you to design a model that will provide a surplus of income. For example, you could include the going price for the sale of data to secondary clients, and the annual number of contracts you expect to complete. The same approach to the expense fishbone would make it more informative.
3. You mention providing grants and convincing foundations to contribute to the cost of entering 20 villages in your service. The grants should appear on the expense fishbone, and the contributions of foundations should appear as income.
4. The concluding thought of your first critical success factor isn’t quite finished. I’m curious to know what you planned to say.
If you would like to submit one more revision of your business model, I would gladly accept it through Friday, February 29. Otherwise, your application is complete and ready to forward for a decision on the status of VillageManager as a finalist. Notification of your status will happen sometime after March 1.
It has been a pleasure working with you through this process. I’m glad you found it helpful. I wish you all the best for the future.
Regards,
Susan
