Senior Campaigns Organizer, Boston, MA

Corporate Accountability International (formerly Infact) is expanding our campaigning to stop corporate abuse, and building our staff team to lead the campaigns. Corporate Accountability International is a membership organization that protects people by waging and winning campaigns challenging dangerous and irresponsible corporate actions around the world. Our Think Outside the Bottle campaign is challenging corporate control of water and working to promote, protect and ensure public funding for our public water systems. For more than 30 years, we’ve forced corporations like Nestlė, GE and Philip Morris/Altria to stop their abusive practices.

The Senior Campaigns Organizer is responsible for developing and implementing campaign strategies and tactics, and for mobilizing and expanding Corporate Accountability International’s base of activists and allies in the US and internationally, with particular emphasis on our Think Outside the Bottle campaign. The Senior Campaigns Organizer maintains in-person, phone, mail and email communication with individual activists and allied organizations; recruits new activists and builds new alliances; organizes actions and events; serves as a campaign spokesperson, keeps accurate, complete and usable records; and raises funds. All organizing is overseen by the Campaign Director, involving other staff, activists and allies as appropriate.

Major Responsibilities:
• Help build, develop and maintain Corporate Accountability International’s national activist base.
• Organize activists in person and on the phone, as well as via written and email correspondence.
• Coordinate international, national, regional and local actions and events.
• Foster relations with allied groups, organizations and individuals, and develop activist leadership.
• Help develop and implement strategic campaign plans and accurate budgets.

• Participate in fundraising, including developing and implementing grassroots fundraising plans.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Demonstrated commitment to corporate accountability, with a global perspective.
• At least 4 years as a full-time staff organizer in a progressive social change organization.
• Demonstrated ability to manage organizing programs and budgets, develop and implement plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with databases and MS Word, and at ease with computers overall.
• Strong administrative skills.
• Experience with effective grassroots fundraising.
• Proven ability to work well with a diverse group of people.
• Enthusiasm for national and international travel.

ACCOUNTABILITY: The Senior Campaigns Organizer is accountable to the Campaign Director.
SALARY RANGE: $33,600 to $37,200, depending on experience, with a generous benefits package.

Purpose and Responsibilities:

We are currently seeking to hire a Lead Scientist for the Research and Standards Department. This is an exciting “technical track” opportunity to spearhead the scientific development of our organizations core technology. The ideal candidate will become the organizations resident scientist, contributing technical expertise to research programs, projects, and outreach activities. The candidate should be an experienced scientific researcher with a broad background in the environmental sciences, skilled at working with diverse scientific communities, and skilled in communications with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders. He or she will have a proven track record of scientific leadership.

This scientist works closely with the Associate Director of the department and the Executive Director to recommend and implement updates and revisions to national and sub-national Ecological Footprint accounting methodologies, advise Global Footprint Network staff on technical projects and outreach campaigns, and provide external technical support to partners, academic institutions, and governments.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Leads and facilitates scientific research process for National Accounts Improvement initiative to assure continuous development of the organization’s core science

Director of Development, Oakland, CA

Global Footprint Network's founders, Susan Burns and Mathis Wackernagel, recently won a 2007 Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship, putting the organization in front of new international audiences and creating unprecedented opportunities for growth. To make the most of this critical time, Global Footprint Network is seeking a full-time Development Director to provide insight and leadership for the development team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Development is responsible for leading the growth and aggressive expansion of Global Footprint Networks' fundraising programs. In addition to performing the foundational tasks outlined below, the Development Director is expected to effectively move the organization to the next level of visibility and success within the foundation and philanthropic communities. A critical aspect of the job is to seek out new opportunities for funding and to bring innovative ideas forward for consideration by the Executive Director and Board.

Specific activities include:
  • Lead Global Footprint Network staff in meeting, or exceeding, our fundraising goals of $1.2 million for 2008 and $1.6 million for 2009
  • Refine, enhance, and execute existing fundraising plan; work with Executive Director and development team to launch a new major donor program, and grow the individual donor program, the multi-year foundation fundraising campaign, and the corporate sponsorship program; assist the Managing Director and Executive Director in formalizing the fundraising activities of the Board
  • Involve, train, supervise, and support program staff in writing grant proposals that tie to the strategic direction of the organization and assist staff with managing the fulfillment of activities outlined in grant applications
  • Work with Executive Director and Board Members to recruit, cultivate, and maintain relations with donors and prospective donors; and work with staff to increase the number, consistency and size of gifts, sponsorships, and grants
  • Research, analyze, and prioritize new sources of funding and revenue from foundations, businesses, individuals, and philanthropic networks; and initiate contact and manage relationships with donors and foundation grant officers
  • Oversee the submission of grant applications, reports, progress updates, letters of inquiry, etc.; manage the production of two annual direct mail donor appeals; oversee the acknowledgment of all gifts within one week of receipt; conceive, coordinate, produce, and manage follow-up activities from fundraising events; oversee the management and maintenance of Global Footprint Networks' fundraising database
  • Work with staff to identify and apply for awards
  • Fundraise for international expansion and lead staff abroad in fundraising efforts

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants are expected to be reliable, responsible, creative, self-starters with strong writing and communications skills, and to have a minimum of 8-10 years of non-profit fundraising experience. Applicants should have a proven track record working with organizations with budgets of 1 million dollars or more, a demonstrated ability to manage staff and meet deadlines, and experience using fundraising databases. Applicants should be knowledgeable about sustainability and global resource issues, and must be willing to travel. Candidates with fundraising experience in the environmental sustainability field are preferred. Experience with fundraising from international sources and in partnership with academic institutions is beneficial.

EIRs at Unitus spend up to one year launching their venture with the deep support of a dynamic community of socially-committed business professionals with passion for alleviating poverty through microfinance. The EIR program will provide strategic support to entrepreneurs dedicated to building social businesses that can scale to improve income generation potential of millions of disadvantaged people in India or Sub-Saharan Africa. YouthBuild

National Mentoring Manager, Somerville, MA

The mission of YouthBuild USA is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income youth to rebuild their communities and their lives.  The aim of the YouthBuild Mentoring Initiative is to promote the creation a workable long-term caring relationship between a YouthBuild student or graduate and an older person for as many students and graduates as possible. Most of the work necessarily takes place at the local YouthBuild program level. However, as the national support center for 226 local YouthBuild program across the country, YouthBuild USA plays an invaluable role by providing guidance, external partnerships, training, handbooks and materials, seed funding, data and research information, problem-solving, and national recognition. We are currently partnering with a national mentoring organization, Dare Mighty Things, to build a “natural match” mentoring model.

The National Mentoring Manager will build and manage YouthBuild USA’s new Mentoring Initiative. This is new in two ways: new for YouthBuild USA, and new in the mentoring field, since there is little experience or program knowledge about mentoring work with young adults from low income backgrounds. This is an exciting and challenging project. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Coordination and management of mentoring initiative (liaisons with Dare Mighty Things in developing a pilot of the “natural match” approach to mentoring; manages the organization’s annual objective setting regarding mentoring work; manages a centralized budget )

Technical Assistance and Training (develops effective relationships and regular communication with the mentoring coordinators at YouthBuild programs; devises a technical assistance strategy to promote mentoring; coordinates training on mentoring; hosts an annual gathering or convenes periodic conference calls of all local mentoring program coordinators for peer learning and problem-solving)

Material and Resource Development (builds partnerships with several national mentoring resource organizations; culls relevant information from national mentoring organizations and adapts them for YouthBuild; writes a short handbook on YouthBuild USA's guidelines for a local YB mentoring project;  produces a short handbook for young people on how to identify and maintain a mentor; creates and maintains an on-line resource center on mentoring, linked to other national mentoring organizations)

Information and Data Gathering (collects the experiences, lessons, and successes regarding mentoring from YouthBuild programs, and amplifies to the YouthBuild field; aggregates data & uses data to evaluate outcomes of the program; writes a semi-annual report)

Mentor Support (helps raise funds and distributes small grants to local programs for mentoring; publishes a periodic on-line newsletter; develops a YouthBuild national mentoring network; honors outstanding mentors for their contribution through a national recognition program; creates its own mentors program by engaging interested YouthBuild USA staff)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Ideally, experience running a mentoring program for young adults; minimally, experience and skill working with young adults from low-income communities
• Knowledgeable about the national mentoring field, including recruiting, training, and supervising of mentors; training resources, and funding options
• Computer and Internet proficient: Microsoft Windows, Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Web navigation and research

...Also required are a broad understanding of the issues of cultural identity, a proven ability to work well with a multi-racial/cultural staff, and a deep commitment to the advancement of young people and young adults from low income backgrounds.

Director of Career Development, Somerville, MA

The mission of YouthBuild USA is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income youth to rebuild their communities and their lives.  This position will work with local program staff to ensure successful transitions of YouthBuild graduates into employment opportunities and long-term economic sustainability. The director of career development will focus on training program staff to build bridges from the YouthBuild program environment to the market environment. The role of this position is to improve YouthBuild practice along the full spectrum of demand-driven employment activity including career assessments of YouthBuild students, preparation for placement and success in careers, partnerships with the private sector, and long-term supports for graduates.

Responsibilities include:

I. Create strategic plan and ensure its full implementation (Create a full vision for the placement and success of low income youth in high demand industries; Provide guidance on effective strategies for improving career related outcomes and the economic sustainability of graduates; Create a seamless plan to strengthen graduate placement and success.)

II. Develop and grow external partnerships (Represent YouthBuild USA; Cultivate additional public- and private-sector funds to provide long-term support to the Career Development Initiative (CDI); Identify and negotiate regional and national partnerships with funders, employers, training organizations, and workforce intermediaries to support employment opportunities for YouthBuild graduates)

III. Increase the capacity of the YouthBuild field to implement the full range of employment strategies (Deliver career-related technical assistance and training to YouthBuild programs including DOL-contract activities; Design, organize, and facilitate conferences; Develop publications, training workshops, web resources, and other materials to support career development activities; Increase employment-related credentials and certifications available to YouthBuild students; Administer NCCER sponsorship)

IV. Project management (Direct the YouthBuild Career Development Initiative (CDI); Maintain funder relationships)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • At least ten years experience in workforce development, education and training, youth development, alternative education, or economic development
  • At least five years of experience in program management, grant management, and project design
  • Experience in building private sector partnerships, especially in employment-related regional sectoral partnerships
  • Experience with U.S. Department of Labor programs
