Project Manager, Ecological Creditor Initiative, Oakland, CA
Global Footprint Network is seeking a full-time Project Manager for our Ecological Creditor Initiative to work in our global headquarters office in Oakland, California. This is a 12-18 month, temporary assignment with the potential for extension.
Global Footprint Network is a growing, international non-profit organization that promotes a sustainable economy by advancing the Ecological Footprint, a tool that makes sustainability measurable. The Ecological Footprint has become one of the most widely used sustainability metrics worldwide. It is the only tool that comprehensively measures human pressure on the planet against what the planet can supply, and it is therefore critical to the success of sustainable development.
Global Footprint Network’s founders, Susan Burns and Mathis Wackernagel, recently won a Skoll Award for Social Entrepreneurship and Global Footprint Network received the 2008 Gulbenkian Prize, both of which have put the organization in front of new international audiences and creating unprecedented opportunities for growth.
Position Summary
To make the most of this critical time, Global Footprint Network is seeking a Project Manager to run a key aspect of our Ten-In-Ten campaign, aimed at initiating a dialogue among nations about how to stay competitive and guarantee the well being of humanity in an increasingly resource-constrained world. The position involves convening global leaders, organizing work sessions and events, publishing and disseminating reports, promoting findings, and assisting with the formation of a global group of Ecological Creditor nations. The ideal candidate will have outstanding project management and communication skills, the ability to liaise with international experts and government representatives, a proficiency in Spanish and other European languages, and an interest in being part of developing a new global forum for sustainability.
Performance Profile
As the Project Manager of our Ecological Creditor Initiative, you will report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the development and implementation of Global Footprint Network’s new Ecological Creditor Initiative
- Engaging with international government representatives and experts
- Managing project and event schedules, timelines, and budgets
- Organizing hospitality and travel, producing invitations and materials, participating in agenda creation, assisting with outreach, and securing participation in work sessions and events taking place outside the U.S.
- Assisting with the development, publication, and dissemination of white papers and reports, in English and Spanish
- Soliciting and compiling ideas and input from multiple international stakeholders
- Working with Global Footprint Network’s communication department to promote conferences and work sessions; coordinate media events; craft materials and presentation tools; publicize Initiative findings and reports
- Identifying and coordinating opportunities for Initiative participants or representatives to present findings and in venues with the potential to engage a targeted list of national government leaders
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish and other European languages (i.e. French, German)
- Seasoned project manager with minimum 7 years professional experience
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
- Willingness to travel internationally
- Passion for sustainability and global resource issues
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Preferred, experience with quantitative metrics and/or sustainability indicators
- Preferred, experience managing international projects that are cross border
Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience. Health insurance, 403(b) and other benefits are provided. Our collegial, open-plan office is located in an attractive neighborhood with good transit access. Our daily communal lunches are light-hearted and often delicious.
