Project Manager, Jersey City, NJ

Hudson Community Enterprises, a not- for- profit organization based in Jersey City, New Jersey is seeking a Project Manager to oversee the development of its third social enterprise business. HCE was originally founded in 1957 as a community rehabilitation program and for all of the years since its inception has focused its efforts in the area of vocational rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities. It has also relied on an approach that utilized the provision of these services through work secured from the local business community as the methodology of treatment to improve the work skills of enrolled participants.

 

Although HCE’s mission has remained constant, “to create employment opportunities for community residents”, its programs, services, and customers have expanded to meet the needs of its community. With a staff of 50, the agency offers a range of education, training, and employment services for youth with disabilities exiting school, adults with disabilities in its vocational rehabilitation programs, as well as community residents facing other barriers to employment, i.e. welfare. This past year 563 individuals participated in its programs leading to employment. Since its inception in 1957, the organization has placed 3,500 community residents into employment.

HCE’s existing businesses are both in the area of document management and include a mobile document shredding business and a document imaging business. The planned business is a digital mailroom management business. HCE has been successful in getting one of its existing businesses on a set aside list by the state of New Jersey and will leverage that relationship to add its new business to that list.

The Project Manager will lead the start up and growth of Metro Mailroom Management Services, leading and managing this critical formative stage. The Project Manage will report to HCE’s President/CEO and join its existing management team as a peer. Specific responsibilities will include:

• Introducing Metro MMS to existing customers
• Completing an analysis of the industry to define potential customers and pricing
• Developing a marketing and sales plan
• Determining branding, advertising, and promotion
• Cultivating potential customers
• Working with existing partners to secure a “Set Aside of Services” by State of New Jersey
• Developing policies and procedures for Metro MMS
• Identifying job opportunities in the business and needed skill sets fro the same
• Identifying needed equipment for the business
• Developing lead generation programs
• Preparation of bids to secure contracts
• Overseeing financials to insure fiscal solvency

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a ‘self-starter’ social entrepreneur with a demonstrated ability to create and successfully manage new ventures. He/She will possess:

• Bachelor’s degree in any relevant discipline, or equivalent experience, is required.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible positions in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors.
• Combination of both business and nonprofit experience preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cooperatively to satisfy needs of internal and external constituents.
• Experience with evaluating and/or building the operational and financial capacity of organizations to undertake major initiatives.
• Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and discretion.
• Strong communication skills, particularly written.
• Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with diverse people and communities.
• High standards, integrity and a sense of humor.
• Expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and general database systems.
