Senior Manager of Outreach, Bonn, Germany

IFOAM represents the global organic sector, with 770 member organizations in 111 countries. IFOAM is recognized by ISO as a standard setting body and has official status with the FAO, UNCTAD, UNEP, IFAD and several other United Nations and international organizations.

The Senior Manager of Outreach is a new position within IFOAM. The Senior Manager will work closely with and receive direction from IFOAM’s Executive Director and be part of the IFOAM Head Office management team in Bonn, Germany.

The Senior Manager will be the leading staff to guide all IFOAM activities and resources on promoting the federation to the membership, the general public and all stakeholders. The Senior Manager will also contribute to the success of the ‘Organic World Foundation’ currently being established in Switzerland to support IFOAM’s goals and objectives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES of the Senior Manager include, but are not limited to:

A. Managing all matters related to outreach, marketing and public relations work. This includes in particular:
- Develop and implement a global marketing plan, both for IFOAM and the Organic World Foundation.
- Further develop IFOAM’s concepts for conferences and events.
- Develop and supervise the implementation of a media and press work plan for IFOAM – the successful candidate further develops the media network and actively increases the number of strategic press contacts.
- Supervise and significantly contribute to the production of IFOAM publications and promotion materials, like the Magazine Ecology and Farming, the IFOAM public website www.ifoam.org, event proceedings, dossiers, training manuals and pamphlets.
- Assist the Executive Director in preparing respective documents for the IFOAM World Board discussion and approval.

B. Managing all matters related to the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies for internal target groups, which includes:
- Further development of the membership strategy and IFOAM’s internal communication with its structures and Internal Bodies (self-organized regional or sector specific groups).
- Supervise and significantly contribute to the production of IFOAM membership publications, like the Internal Newsletter IFOAM in Action, the electronic periodical Insider, the IFOAM membership only website and the Membership Directory.

C. Supervising staff of the Outreach Department.
Currently the IFOAM Head Office is in the process of being restructured to focus more on advocacy and outreach. Staff positions need to be newly designed to fit future needs. The Senior Manager is involved in the revision of job descriptions and also in the recruitment of coordinators and other assisting staff for the outreach department. On a regular basis the Senior Manager, determines work plans and schedules for the outreach department, evaluates staff performance and provides training.

In managing these complex responsibilities the Senior Manager closely collaborates with the Executive Director and the Department Managers. The Senior Manager will lead management of and successful resolution of ongoing operational and strategic matters in regard to the above responsibilities through interactive, timely and comprehensive facilitation between all parties.

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate possesses senior management experience with 8 years of work experience in marketing, media and/or public relations work, has successfully completed an advanced university degree in a relevant field and is able to demonstrate the following key competencies:

- Accept a diverse range of managerial and technical responsibilities.
- Organizational skills – the successful candidate handles multiple assignments and meets deadlines while motivating the team.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills - the successful candidate is able to facilitate interactive discussions and maintaining positive interpersonal relations and confidence.
- Team membership skills – the successful candidate works well as a member of a multicultural, interdisciplinary, multilingual and international team.
- Exceptional writing skills in regard to composing press releases, articles, promotional material, reports, etc.
- Languages - Fluency in English, written and spoken – preferably the successful candidate also has skills in another language.
- Capacity and initiative to creatively design and implement projects related to IFOAM’s work areas.
- Computer Skills – the successful candidate is a professional user of MS Word and Excel and has a good understanding of internet content management systems, email lists and publishing software.
- Personal values – the successful candidate identifies with IFOAM’s mission and goals, is able to positively relate to IFOAM’s program and is at a general level familiar with the scope of IFOAM’s activities in standard setting, international accreditation, harmonization with government regulations and international cooperation.
- Personal conduct – the successful candidate represents IFOAM with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct. The successful candidate conducts his/her work with uncompromised integrity and loyalty appropriate to the position.
- Willingness to undertake international travel.

CONDITIONS
Full time position.
Salary and other conditions are compatible to similar social and environmental international non-governmental organizations.
