Development Director of Living Goods: The Avon of Rural Health, San Francisco, CA
Living Goods operates Avon-like networks of village-based mobile health entrepreneurs that combine best practices from the worlds of microfinance, franchising, and public health to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality from the diseases of poverty with a business model that is fully self-funding. Living Goods’ health entrepreneurs reduce illness and death by dramatically improving access to and adoption of simple, proven health products and delivering essential health education. LG is also a powerful engine of economic development, improving livelihoods by providing women a reliable source of income as Health Promoters, by keeping wage earners healthy and productive, and by averting costly medical treatments. LG plans to scale rapidly in East Africa and replicate broadly across the developing world. LG operates in joint venture with BRAC in Uganda and has a waiting list of multi-national NGOs who want to partner to replicate the LG model in other countries. Position Overview:
LG is seeking an energetic resourceful Development Director to help navigate the organizations’ rapid growth. The Development Director reports to the president and will contribute to the continuous advancement of resources to support LG’s long term vision. Responsibilities will include researching and cultivating new donors, development of donor communications, grant writing, and overseeing internet and email strategy. The right candidate will be happy in a dynamic start up environment and be willing to roll up their sleeves and take on big tasks and small. The position can be full or part-time and is based in San Francisco, although LG will consider telecommuting for the right candidate.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of five years experience fundraising, preferably for international causes, including working with major donors, multi-lateral institutions and/or operating foundations
• Significant experience exploiting online and social networking tools to increase awareness and improve fundraising effectiveness; marketing and communication experience a plus
• Solid proposal and grant writing skills as it relates to economic development, health and other relevant content areas
• High energy, goal-oriented, and driven, with an entrepreneurial approach to fundraising and problem-solving
• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to and passion for Living Goods’ mission
