School Children Seek Venture Capital

Posted by Anne Ginther at July 03. 2008

RandomKid is a unique 501(C)3 nonprofit organization that brings kids together from around the globe to solve real world problems. Talia Leman founded RandomKid with an adult partner in 2005 when she was ten years old. Now 13, Talia works with any random kid who wants to turn their compassion into action.  "RandomKid helps kids help others," Talia said, "and one of the best things about it is seeing kids' faces--both the givers and recipients-- as they celebrate the results together."

Talia's now looking for venture capital.  She has a prospectus that she's happy to share with serious investors. This is a kid who has a track record for bringing in a great return on investment.  In 2006, Talia won the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes, which included a $2000 cash award.  Talia wrote to the foundation, thanking them for the award, and telling them about her plans to invest the money into social entrepreneurial ventures and make it grow, while helping others.  She invested the full award into a 13-year-old's idea to sell key chains to build homes in the MS Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina (see http://www.randomkid.org/rockstarsarah.asp).  That $2000 turned into $50,000 in sales!  She then took the $2000 and put it into kids' bottled water businesses and turned that into over 40,000 bottles of water sold, and a new well that brings clean safe water to a community of 2500 people in South Africa.

This is an incredible opportunity to educate, mobilize, unify and empower millions of kids around the globe.  If you've been looking for a place to do some good with your money-- I highly recommend you watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC0_q7LY-v0&feature=user) and then contact RandomKid President Anne Ginther at anne@randomkid.org or 612-210-9952 (Talia is currently at summer camp).  You'll double your feel-good factor by educating and empowering children to help others, while supporting sustainable efforts to help people in your communities and around the globe.
