GSVC's 2008 Symposium on Social Entrepreneurship: Bringing together leaders and innovators passionate about social entrepreneurship and enterprises driving social change.
Held in conjunction with the 2008 Global Finals of the Global Social Venture Competition, the GSVC's 2008 Symposium on Social Entrepreneurship brings together leaders and innovators in social entrepreneurship, business, and academia for a full-day symposium on Saturday, April 19 in San Francisco. As the GSVC expands and builds an increasingly international network of students, entrepreneurs, academics, investors, and social venture professionals, we see the growing need and opportunity to create dialog and community around the competition.
The 2008 symposium will provide a platform for discussion of the evolving field of social entrepreneurship, as well as an opportunity for investors, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit leaders to meet and interact with faculty, students, and GSVC finalists. Speakers and panel discussions will address the most recent issues in the field of social entrepreneurship and the international movement of enterprises driving social change. The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is the largest and oldest student-led business plan competition providing mentorship, exposure, and financial awards to emerging social ventures from around the world. The GSVC’s mission is to catalyze the creation of social ventures, educate future leaders, and build awareness around social enterprise. The competition supports the creation of real businesses that bring about positive social change in a sustainable manner. Since its inception in 1999, the GSVC has awarded more than $300,000 to emerging social ventures and has introduced early-stage social entrepreneurs to the investment community. Nearly 25% of past GSVC entrants are now operating companies.
