Seven Points to Ponder

Seven Points to Ponder

1. In any investment's due diligence there could be two kinds of errors – missing a deserving case and selecting a non deserving one. It is not statisically possible to eliminate both these errors. And selecting a non deserving investment causes only financial loss on pilot. But missing a deserving investment abolishes a social enterprise.

2. Social Entrepreneurs ought to be treated with extreme compassion, trust and support rather than a standard written code of rules.

3. Investee coordinators must be confirmed to stay free from any envious feelings on their investee’s creativity, and ability & fire to wriggle through thick and thin of an initiative. For this, they should be made to pass through thorough appraisal to establish their unbiased truthful feed back rather than thrive on distrust.

4. Investee - investor relationship in case of social investment funds and social entrepreneurs must not dwell on just the matrices of data/feed back coming from the bottom rung field team which itself may be constituted by failed ordinary entrepreneurs.

5. At times, a small shortfall in support from the social investor may end up in to complete failure of a social enterprise.

6. It is not easy to groom an entrepreneur as a social entrepreneur if he/she is not borne that way. Social entrepreneurship is a genetic (dis)order. This trait ought to be taken advantage of when the organization’s real target to support social enterprises.

7. Social entrepreneurs are a rare commodity – treat them that way and handle them with utmost care
